Back in the Swing of Things!

Today was a great day! For the first time in three and a half years, I got to do what I LOVE to do most...teach preschool. I will be doing a special story hour for Ryan's preschool class once a month and today was the first day. We read books about leaves and did AB patterns using fall colors and leaves. I had so much fun! Ryan seemed to enjoy having his mommy there too!

One cute story...I brought out this puppet named Tommy. Tommy doesn't talk because I don't do voices well. Instead he just whispers to me. The kids loved him, they just giggled. When it was time for him to go, I said he was tired and needed to take a nap. So I put him back in his bookbag. One of the little girls, asked so innocently "Does he have a pillow in there?" I of course said yes. Then she asked, "And a blankie?" She was so serious. It was so sweet.

And that my friends, is what I miss the most about preschoolers...pure innocence.

Next month is my most favorite theme...monsters...friendly monsters of course!

October Budget Here We Come!

Yesterday we officially started our first Dave Ramsey budget! We have only had to have three emergency budget meetings BEFORE we even started the month. BUT they were good moves because we are putting MORE towards debt.

A couple of days ago, we cut up ALL our credit cards! We had way too many and I am actually embarrassed by the picture below. However, I guess the fact that they are in tiny pieces should make me feel better!

We are excited to take this step forward and begin this journey to becoming DDDEEEBBBTTT FFFRRREEEEEE!!!

Again, we strongly suggest you go through Dave's Financial Peace University. It will change your life!

Happy 1st Birthday Jaxson!

A year ago, this precious gift from God was born....

Now, this bundle of joy, is one years old...

Oh, how we love him!
A couple of fun facts about this boy...
He can stand by himself but just for a couple of seconds.
He can take a couple of steps by himself...if he tries!
He is the most joyful, easy going baby I have ever met!
He loves to get into everything and explore.
He knows the things he ISN'T supposed to get into and does it anyways, in other words, he has an ornery side.
He has 10 teeth!
He loves to talk, hum, and make silly noises.
He is still taking two naps.
He is a good eater...not very picky.
He is off formula and is about off a bottle.
He sleeps 11-12 hours about 99% of the time!
He adores his big brother!
He is a climber...especially stairs!
He is wearing 12 - 18 months clothes.
I don't know his weight or height because we haven't had his 1 year check up!
We celebrated Jaxson's first birthday this weekend with family and friends. We enjoyed dinner, present opening, a video of pictures from Jaxson's first year of life, and cupcakes. Jax got lots of adorable clothes, fun toys, and money for college savings. We love having everyone at our house!

And because our children our spoiled by their grandparents....
Ryan got this new Scooter also! Which he loves!

Labor Day Weekend: Part One

Forgive me for posting about our Labor Day weekend now but I am a full time working mom of two little boys so time is not something I have a lot of!

Labor Day weekend, we went to Pittsburgh as a family. Chad booked a great hotel room at the Holiday Inn with a pool. We got there in the evening on Friday night and went swimming. We then attempted to sleep in the same room which was accomplished but not very well! Let's just say we all sleep better in separate rooms.

Saturday morning we got up and had breakfast at the hotel then headed off to the Pittsburgh Zoo. I was really excited about going there because I had seen an "Jon and Kate: Plus 8" episode of when they went there and it looked like a great zoo.

It is really kid friendly and not as spread out as the Cleveland Zoo. In fact, there is only really one way to go through the whole zoo! They also have a lot more animals and you can see the animals much better.

They had all sorts of different things for kids. This one you had to pay for but it was only a dollar and he got to go around three times!
Jaxson sat in his stroller most of the day!

A walking bridge!

Climbing net for kids in this play area with four HUGE slides.

Ryan's favorite exhibit was the shark exhibit. It was pretty cool because you walked through a tunnel of glass so they swam above you and right beside you.

I was most excited about the polar bear exhibit because it was the same as the sharks...except for the polar bears weren't swimming in the water so it wasn't very cool. :(

This was an opening in the middle of a tunnel that had lots of fish!

The scuba diver was cleaning but stopped to take a picture with Ryan!

Daddy and Ryan

The Giraffes...another of Ryan's favorite exhibits.

Just about as tall as a "newborn elephant"

Checkin out the monkeys!

Posing for a picture!

Who let this animal out of his cage?

Live like no one else is living so you can LIVE like no one else...

Does anyone know who wrote that quote? Dave Ramsey. Yep, do you know him? If you don't, you should. Chad and I know do and he is changing our lives. Dave Ramsey is a Christian financial planner who runs Financial Peace University across the nation. He is an author and radio talk show host who has changed the lives of thousands through his 7 Baby Steps to financial freedom.

When we were looking for a house in Amherst, God laid on my heart that we needed to get out of debt. Of course, I think I started listening to late...at least I thought so. See we put a bid on our current house but after lots of problems we started second guessing ourselves. I was second guessing buying a bigger and more expensive house. I started to hope that the deal wouldn't go through so we could get a smaller house and get out of debt. However, Chad wasn't thinking the same thing and obviously God wasn't either because He blessed us with this beautiful home!

God has blessed us in so many ways including financially. We have two good jobs that we both love, a beautiful house, nice furniture (thanks to Maibach's), nice things, and get to do nice things. So why wasn't I at peace? Because I knew we were still in debt and God desired for us to get out of our debt and use His money more wisely. I had been telling Chad that I really wanted to go through Dave's Financial Peace University classes since April or May but he had no desire until about two weeks ago. We couldn't have done this without both of us on the same page.

So two weeks ago, we signed up for the online classes and we are now gun ho about getting out of debt. Now I am being really honest here because I feel like God wants me to share my journey with others. I am not usually this open about my financial matters with others but here it goes.

We are about $235,000 in debt with our house included. We are lucky because we do not have a lot credit card debt compared to the average American family. In fact, all of our credit card debt is under 0% interest for so many months plans and we are on schedule to pay them off and could be paid off right away. However, we know that one of us could get hurt and not be able to work at anytime and therefore, we could be in trouble if they are not taken care of quickly.

On the other hand, we do have A LOT of student loan debt! Why did we go to private schools? We have really not put a big dent in paying those off and we need to get started!

Though I think we have made lots of poor choices, I also think we have made some good choices and it is good to focus on those as well. For instance, we paid cash for all of my master's classes. It cost us over $12,000 to get my masters. This is something that makes me very proud!

So will you please help us by supporting us in our journey through prayer and encouragement. We will officially begin implementing Dave's steps starting in October and we hope to be debt free except for our house in no more than 2 years! It won't be easy but I think we can do it!

In fact, my nerdy hubby is in the other room working on our budget while this free spirit types away! (If you don't understand this line...go through Financial Peace University)

Anyone want to join us in this journey? If so, I know Fairlawn is offering a class this fall or you can do it in your home online. We would love to support you as well! I will give you updates on our journey every once in awhile. I know one thing it has already done is strengthen our relationship.

I want to end with something profound I read on a blog the other day..."If we charge things on a credit card that we don't have the money to pay for, aren't we telling God that He has not provided enough for us?" I don't know about you but I don't want to tell God He isn't providing for my needs because He surely has blessed the Yoder family!

First Day of Preschool

Today was the big day...the first day of preschool! He wasn't as excited as I thought he would be but maybe it is because for the past two weeks we have been telling him "Sorry buddy, you can't go to school today!" So maybe he really didn't think he was going until we actually got there. Plus, he didn't ride the big yellow school bus like Trent!

I picked him up from Marie's house and walked him in. He wasn't so sure about me leaving and asked for me to stay. I told I would stay for a little bit. He started to play and not much later he declared, "Mom, you can go now!"

Chad picked him up. His teacher, Mrs. Reynolds said he did great! He seemed to love it though his response to "what did you do today?" was "I don't know!" Aren't they not supposed to say that until at least junior high!?!

This evening was a little rough without a nap but he did reasonably well. However, both boys were in bed by seven. It usually takes Ryan about an hour or so to fall asleep...he was out in maybe 15 minutes.

I can't believe it is only 8:00pm. I have gotten so many things accomplished already! And I have time to relax and BLOG! Here are some fun first of day of preschool pictures!

Silly Boys

Today I ran upstairs to put away some clothes and when I got downstairs, Jax had climbed INTO the lid drawer. Up until now he has just pulled out lids but he is getting more brave and adventurous. I hope he doesn't turn into a climber!

School started today in Amherst so all the Sayers' kids went to school. Ryan got to walk Trent down to the bus stop but he also wanted to get on the school bus and go to school. He was pretty disappointed when Marie didn't let him go. Later when I picked him up, we had the following conversation:

"Mommy, I Trent!"

"You're Trent. Why?"

"I Trent, I go to school tomorrow. I ride the school bus!"

Sometimes the things he says and comes up with just throw me for a loop. He is so silly!

Anyways, I think he will be very disappointed for the next couple of weeks when he doesn't get to go to school...especially on a school bus.
